Where Pedestrian Died In October
ONEONTA – The state Department of Transportation today announced that sign and traffic signal work, prompted after a car struck and killed a pedestrian in October, will be performed at Main and Chestnut streets 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.
Mayor Gary Herzig sent a letter to the DOT requesting the work after Daniel Heath, 75, of Oneonta, died on Oct. 28.
Motorists are advised to be alert for workers who may be in the intersection. Flag personnel will guide motorists through the intersection when workers are in the roadway..
All work will be performed weather permitting.
Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for work zone infractions. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of the driver’s license.
