IN MEMORIAM: Constance Wallace, 91;

Chemist Later Worked At Bassett Hospital

COOPERSTOWN – Word has been received that Constance (Armitage) Wallace, 91, a chemist, passed away Nov. 7, 2016, at Bassett Hospital.

She was born on Feb. 12, 1925, in Cooperstown, daughter of Madelyn Montigel and Henry Raymond Armitage, Sr. She graduated from Cooperstown High School in 1942 and from MIddlebury College in 1946.

She was a research chemist in New York and San Francisco from the late 1940s through the mid-1960s. She took some time off to raise her daughter, then from the 1980s until retirement worked as a ward clerk and medical records clerk at Bassett, where she later volunteered.

She was an avid gardener who had a vegetable garden at Brookwood Point for decades. She volunteered and sewed costumes for The Little People’s Theater in the 1970s. She was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority at Middlebury College.

She is survived by her brother, H. Raymond Armitage of Cooperstown, her daughter, Marcie W. Ritter, Marcie’s husband Steve Ritter, and their children Melinda and Aaron Ritter, all of Pittsburgh, Pa.

She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Lavinder “Lav” A. Wallace.
