SUNY Oneonta Professor Ragozzine

Elected To National Mathematics Post

ONEONTA – Dr. Charles B. Ragozzine Jr., professor and chair of the SUNY Oneonta Department of Mathematics, Computer Science & Statistics, has been elected by the Seaway Section of the Mathematical Association of America to serve a three-year term as its representative to the national Congress of the Mathematical Association of America.

Ragozzine’s duties will include representing the Seaway Section at national meetings and liaising between the section and the national organization.  The section is named for the St. Lawrence Seaway, and including Upstate New York and the Provinces of Quebec and Ontario.

Ragozzine is a member of Pi Mu Epsilon, the American Mathematical Society, and the Mathematical Association of America. As a member of the MAA Seaway Section, he has participated in nearly all of the meetings since 2000.

Early in his career, he was involved with the section’s Project NExT and Preparing Future Faculty sessions, and more recently, he has served on the MAA Seaway Executive Committee (2010-2016) as First Vice Chair and Program Chair (April 2010-April 2012), Chair-Elect (April 2012-April 2013), Chair and Chief Executive Officer (April 2013-April 2015), and Past-Chair (April 2015-April 2016).

Ragozzine came to SUNY Oneonta in 2000 after graduating summa cum laude from Fairfield University in 1992 and completing his doctorate at The Ohio State University in 1999.

He has published in peer-refereed journals, including work from his areas of expertise – Hopf Algebras and Quantum Groups. He continues coding Maple packages to perform computations to extend those results.

Ragozzine was honored at the SUNY Oneonta Community of Scholars event in 2013 and received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2014.
