IN MEMORIAM: Howard R. Harder, 86;
Trained Bird Dogs, Including NY Champ
UNADILLA – Howard R. Harder 86, who a union carpenter who raised bird dogs and won a state championship with his dog, Popper, passed from this life on Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2018, at the Cooperstown Center for Rehabilitation & Nursing.
He was born the son of the late Robert and Lula (Chickering) Harder, Sr. in Charlottesville. There, Howard went to school in a one-room schoolhouse, then moved to Oneonta and later to Sidney where he graduated with the Class of 1949.
Howard worked as a union bricklayer and was also a great finish carpenter, having built many fireplaces and kitchens in the area.
In addition to raising bird dogs, Howard loved to hunt and fish.
Howard is survived by six nieces and nephews, and special friends Bill Cerosaletti, Jim Pinney, Kelly Moore and Sue Mott. He was predeceased by brothers Robert and Donald and a sister, Vivian.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27, in Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Unadilla.
