IN MEMORIAM: Jack Vunk, 70  Edmeston;

Recently, Security Supervisor At Dreams Park

EDMESTON – John F. “Jack” Vunk, 70, Dreams Park security supervisor in recent years, passed away Wednesday Sept. 5, 2018, in Rochester, surrounded by his loving family.

Jack was born on Aug. 16, 1948, in Oneonta, the son of the late Donald F. and Kathryn Burns Vunk.  Raised in Edmeston, he was a graduate of Edmeston Central School.

In 1974, he returned to the area to manage D.F. Vunk & Sons, the family farm-supply business, until beginning a 21-year career at NYCM. For the past seven years, Jack worked as a security supervisor at The Cooperstown Dreams Park, a job he loved. Jack and Donna enjoyed spending their winters in Lakeland Fla.

A witty man, Jack always had a quick remark that brought a smile. He loved his family, and could often be found attending school and sporting events for his grandchildren.

Jack could also be found baking, gardening, or mowing his meticulous lawn. For many years, he owned bred, and showed many of his 27 Belgian horses, along with caring for his many farm animals.

Jack had interest in CB radios. “Horsefly” as he was known, would spend countless hours bantering with other CB radio enthusiasts.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Wilcox Vunk of Edmeston; sons Jeremy (April) Vunk of Edmeston and Kristopher (Jess Allen) Vunk of New Berlin; a daughter,  Kari (Zeno) Lantos of Maryland; a sister, Terri (Kevin) Scrivener of Edmeston; grandchildren Madalyn Vunk, Jack Vunk, Julia Vunk, Alex Lantos, Max Lantos, Lillie Vunk, Makaylie Canfield and Hunter Canfield. He is also survived by nieces and nephews Erik (Megan) Scrivener, Erin (Akeem Adeyemi) Scrivener, Matt (Tania) Wilcox, Brad (Bryinly) Wilcox, Justin (Paul Rejman) Wilcox, Ryan (Lacey) Wilcox, Cory (Briana) Wilcox, Derek (Chelsey) Wilcox, Scott (Diana) Wilcox, Amanda Wilcox, Rob (Megan) Wilcox, and Eric (Sarah) Wilcox.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son Joseph Michael Vunk in 2016, a sister Mary Ann Vunk in 2017, and a brother Danny Vunk in 1974.

Calling hours and the funeral were this afternoon at the Delker & Terry Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mark Piedmonte officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Edmeston Emergency Squad, or the Edmeston Free Library in memory of Jack.
