COOPERSTOWN – The Clark Sports Center, under renovation since the fall of 2015, will reopen Saturday, June 17, Jane Forbes Clark, The Clark Foundation president, announced this afternoon.

“Every aspect of The Clark Sports Center is now either new or has been completely renovated,” said Miss Clark. “As a result, we will be able to continue providing a wide range of programming and services that appeal to all ages, and do even more to contribute to the quality of life of the residents in Cooperstown, Otsego County, and beyond.”

Details of opening day activities will be announced as June 17 approaches, she said.

In addition to the current facilities, the expanded structure will include:

  • A 7,000-square-foot fitness center;
  • Four group fitness rooms:
  • A sports performance area;
  • Three swimming pools;
  • A fitness game room;
  • Five renovated squash and racquetball courts;
  • Two conference/meeting rooms,
  • A new lobby area featuring a 35-foot rock climbing wall.

With this two-year renovation and expansion, The Clark Sports Center will now also be home to Bassett Medical Center’s outpatient physical therapy (PT) services, which will relocate to the sports center from its Railroad Avenue location.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for Bassett and will significantly enhance our PT program and allow us to expand the services,” noted Bassett President/CEO Vance M. Brown. “We are extremely grateful to The Clark Foundation and The Clark Sports Center for their partnership on relocating and improving our PT facility, which ultimately assures our patients and the community access to the best possible care on the road to recovery.”

The Clark Foundation supports nonprofit organizations in Cooperstown and New York City through a variety of grant making and operating programs. Founded in 1931, it now ranks among the largest foundations in terms of assets and grants awarded in New York State and the country.
