Announces County Board Run

ONEONTA – Former Seventh Ward Council member  Lizabeth Shannon has announced that she will seek the Democratic nomination for the Otsego County Board of Representatives in the 14th District.

Shannon graduated from Oneonta High School in 1979 and Philadelphia University in 1984, relocating back to her hometown in 2003.  From 2008-11, she served as the Council member for the Seventh Ward and was a co-founder of Oneonta’s successful Fabulous First Friday cultural events.

“At a time when more people are concerned about government leadership, I will help my constituents become involved citizens who work proactively to make our community better,” Shannon said.
During her Common Council term, Shannon served on the Finance Committee, helping the Finance Department refine the budget.  She was on the Zoning Code Revision task force and worked with the Community Development Department to modify the design of the Veteran’s Walkway in Neahwa Park, reducing its cost and keeping the existing trees.  As chairman of the Board of Public Safety, she served as liaison to an Otsego County committee that worked on increasing cell tower coverage and upgrading emergency services communications.  In that capacity, she interacted with members of the County Board of Representatives and several County departments.
Katherine Stulligross, current 14th District Representative, stated “I heartily endorse Lizabeth Shannon for the Board of Representatives in the 14th District.  She will be a thoughtful, hardworking member of the Board”.
