IN MEMORIAM: Loretta E. Herr, 81;

Had Two-Decade Career With County

CHERRY VALLEY – Loretta E. (Pabst) Herr, 81, who retired from the couty’s Office for the Aging, passed away Friday, June 29, 2018 at Cooperstown Center for  Rehabilitation & Nursing.

Loretta was born on Feb 9, 1937 in Brooklyn, daughter of Joseph & Margaret (Murdock) Pabst.  Loretta met Fredy E. Herr at their church Sunday School.  They were married on Sept. 10, 1955 in Brooklyn, and had eight children.  She resided in Brooklyn, Queens, Cherry Valley and Springfield.

Loretta graduated from high school in 1954 with a degree in cosmetology.  She was a homemaker until moving to Cherry Valley in June 1971.  She worked several jobs, eventually working for Otsego County for 19 years at the Otsego County Infirmary and the Office For the Aging, retiring from there.

Loretta was a Girl Scout leader, member of the Cherry Valley Emergency Squad and Presbyterian and Methodist churches.

Loretta is survived by her sons Fredy (Amy), Karl (Liz), Philip (Diane) and Kenneth (Marque) Herr and daughters Elizabeth Herr, Corinne (Tim) Fish and Kathleen (Mark) Crandall and daughter-in-law Anita Herr.  She is also survived by brother-in-law Arthur Wannamaker, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her parents, husband Fredy, son, David Herr, sisters, Genevieve Wannamaker, Mabel Wannamaker, Mae Noone and an infant brother.

Calling hours will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, July 5, at the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley, with funeral to follow at 1 p.m., with Lyman Johnson presiding.  Burial to follow at the Cherry Valley Cemetery .

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Springfield First Responders or Cooperstown Emergency Squad.
