Police Arrest Man

After Car, Foot Chase

Kyle Ives

ONEONTA – A Milford man on parole was arrested after leading Oneonta Police on a chase from Spruce Street to County Route 44.

Kyle Ives, 27, Oneonta, was arrested after Oneonta Police, acting on intelligence received from the Oneonta Detective Bureau, attempted to conduct a traffic stop.  The male, who is under parole supervision, was believed to be in possession of controlled substances and operating a motor vehicle.  Investigation also allegedly revealed the suspect had seven outstanding license suspensions, including a suspension for possession/sale of drugs.

As officers approached a vehicle that matched the given description, a green ford Taurus, the suspect allegedly accelerated rapidly and failed to stop at a stop sign.  The vehicle was observed as it again failed to stop at the stop sign at Spruce Street and Maple Street.  Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, by activating their emergency lights and sirens, which headed south on James F. Lettis Hwy.

Ives allegedly evaded police until he lost control of his vehicle and impacted guide wires on County Route 44, near Chlorinator Road and was arrested after attempting to flee on foot.  Police gave chase until Mr. Ives was taken into custody by the New York State Police.

Subsequent to the actions undertaken by Mr. Ives, he later complained of back pain and was treated at Bassett Hospital and later Albany Medical Center and released early this morning.

Ives was charged with reckless endangerment in the first degree, unlawful fleeing a police officer in the third degree and resisting arrest. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of 15 years incarceration.
