Third-Base Line Of Future

Ready For H-PARB Review

Saratoga Associates, the Village of Cooperstown’s architect in the $4 million redevelopment of Doubleday Field, have provided Mayor Ellen Tillapaugh with these rendering in time for the 5 p.m. Tuesday meeting of the Historic Preservation & Architectural Review Board.  The H-PARB would have to issue a demolition permit for the project to move forward, and there are other step before ground is broken, Tillapaugh said. The current third-based bleachers, which, determined unsafe, have been cordoned off for years, would be replaced with the new structure, which that includes modern bleachers, restrooms, offices and a third-floor meeting space suitable for wedding receptions and other gatherings.  The hope is to at least begin renovations, and perhaps complete them, during 1919, the 100th anniversary of the fabled ballpark, which for decades was considered to be the Birthplace of Baseball.
