Struck By Car In Section Where

Town, City Plan Safety Measures

ONEONTA –  A Walton woman was strucked by car and killed attempting to cross Route 23 near Lettis Highway in Southside Oneonta yesterday afternoon, state police reported today.

The victim was identified as Katy Doughty, 45, who was crossing the busy road at 8:18 p.m.  when was was struck by an eastbound car.    The driver was not identified.

The section of road is not lit and she was not crossing at a crosswalk, the troopers said.  The town and city of Oneonta are currently seeking a state grant to build sidewalks and add lighting in that area.

Two people passing the area at the time of the accident provided CPR.  Oneonta EMS and Fire attempted to provide lifesaving measures but were unable to revive her.

County corner Terry Knapp responded to the scene where he pronounced Doughty dead and she was transported to Lourdes Hospital for an autopsy.

Other agencies on scene included the Otsego County Sheriff’s Department, Pindars Corners Fire Department and the state Department of Transportation.

The accident remains under investigation.  At this time, no tickets have been issued.
