Scholarships From Bassett Family

COOPERSTOWN – Cooperstown High School seniors Sylvia Johnson and Kimberly Gertz have been awarded $500 scholarships by the Charles H. Bassett Youth Foundation, in partnership with The Community Foundation for South Central New York, Bassett Healthcare announced today.

Johnson received the Mary Augusta and Wilson T. Bassett Scholarship, which recognizes excellence in academics, balanced development and a willingness to overcome challenges and seize opportunities.

Gertz received the Elizabeth and Benjamin Bassett Scholarship for excellence in scholarship, good character and exemplary service to others in the community. The students received their scholarships in a brief ceremony at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown May 19.

Johnson plans to attend Stony Brook University this fall. She said she has not decided on a career track yet, “I just know I want to help people and make them happy.”

Gertz plans to pursue criminal justice and psychology at SUNY Albany.
