IN MEMORIAM: Anna Spath, 78, Oneonta;
Worked At Letchworth Developmental Center
ONEONTA – Anna Spath, 78, who retired to Oneonta, passed away Friday, Nov. 23, 2018, at her home, following a brief illness.
Anna was born Feb. 24, 1940, in Middletown, to the late Peter and Helen (Vandermark) Elliott Jr. She lived in the Stony Point and Middletown area for more than 40 years.
On Oct. 12, 1974, Anna married John Spath Jr. in Suffern. John predeceased her on May 5, 2012.
Anna worked for Letchworth Developmental Center as a direct support staff until her retirement. Upon her retirement, Anna and John moved their family to Oneonta.
Anna loved to read in her spare time. She especially enjoyed reading books about the Amish culture. She also was a doll collector.
Anna is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Spath of Clarksville, Texas; sons, John J. Spath III of Oneonta, Ryan Spath and Lynne Fancher of Otego and James Spath of Oneonta; sister, Margaret Kanoff of Middletown; her loving grandchildren, Mattia and Imani; and loving great-grandchildren, Tristen, Christopher and Shakim.
She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Rebecca Spath; her brothers, Peter Elliott and James Elliott; and sisters, Marie Clouse and Irene Stephens.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 30, at Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, when the family will be in attendance. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 1, at Bookhout Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Rockwell officiating.
Committal services and burial will follow in Oneonta Plains Cemetery.
