IN MEMORIAM: Arnold Cope, 86;
Ran Dairy Farm In East Springfield
SPRINGFIELD CENTER – Arnold Cope, a partner in his family’s dairy farm here for a quarter-century, passed away on June 26, 2018, one day after his 20th wedding anniversary, in Loudon, Tenn., where he resided.
He had been doing what he loved most, riding his trike on June 17 when there seemed to be medical incident.
He was born May 8, 1932, in Bainbridge, to the late Lewis and Myrtle (Young) Cope.
Arnold grew up in East Springfield, graduating as valedictorian in 1950. He attended Cornell University. He entered into the Cope Family Farm partnership with his parents in 1950-1997.
He was so proud of the farm. Riding his various “toys” in retirement gave him the greatest pleasure: the snowmobile, ATV, PWC, Segway and the bikes. He truly enjoyed not having to rise early or all that stress in his life.
Moving to Tellico Village in Tennessee three years ago gave him great pleasure. He could ride his Can-Am Spyder more months, and he and Tamara had lots of great moments dogsitting. Abby and Jet and many other doggies will miss him so. He was a member of the Oneonta Retreads motorcycling group and the Tellico Riders.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Tamara; his children Ron (Margo), April (Mark), Connie (Dan) and Tim, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother DeWilton in 1932.
Please consider a donation to East Springfield Fire Dept. or MMMS Library 500 Fairground Rd. West Winfield, NY 13491. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
