MORRIS – Harold Peter Sorensen, 82, a New Jersey native who raised sheep on moving to a farm here, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2019, at Bassett Hospital.
He was born on Feb. 6, 1937, in Plainfield, N.J., the son of Harold and Eleonora (Christensen) Sorensen. He married the love of his life, Theresa Caravella on May 5, 1956 in Edison, N.J.
They had a blessed union of 63 years, raising seven sons on the family farm in Morris.
Harold was very creative and over the years transformed the farm into a beautiful sanctuary for his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. He had a vision for a pond, which he had built in the 1970s and enjoyed the sweeping views of the pond from the farmhouse or looking at the fields from the front porch. He enjoyed raising sheep on their farm and became an expert on their care.
He was a devoted father with a good sense of humor and always had words of advice for his many children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was affectionately referred to as Dad, Grandpa and Uncle Harold. He will be deeply missed.
He leaves behind his wife, Theresa; sons David (Sheryll) Sorensen, Karl Sorensen, Frank Sorensen, Alan (Jane) Sorensen, and Christian (Dale) Sorensen; brother Herbert (Linda) Sorensen; sister Alice Linzer; grandchildren Christine (Rob), Bjorn, David, Christopher, Kevin, Maximie, Jaclynn, Andrew, Justin, Mykayla, Sara, Shawn, Eliza; and great-grandchildren Gina and Kira. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Harold is predeceased by his sons Raymond and Harold Sorensen, and sister Nancy Linzer.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, at the Johnston Funeral Home, 60 Broad St., Morris, with the Rev. John Buddle officiating.
Donations in memory of Harold may be made to the Morris Fire Department, PO Box 311, Morris, NY 13808.
