IN MEMORIAM: Ralph Vanderlip, 71;

Chef At Unadilla House For 26 Years

UNADILLA – Ralph A. Vanderlip, 71, chef at the Unadilla House for 26 years, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, March 12, 2019.

He was born on Dec., 13, 1947, the son of the late Harry and Jeanette Cook Vanderlip.  Ralph married Martha Scott Vanderlip on June 24, 1972, in Unadilla.

Ralph grew up in Cannonsville, where his family owned and operated the General Store.  In 1962, his family moved to Unadilla where he attended Unatego Central School, graduating in 1966.  Ralph received a degree from SUNY Delhi in Hotel Restaurant Management.

Upon graduation, he went on to manage at the Marriott Corporation in the Washington D.C. area, operated a restaurant with his brother in Rochester, then he returned home, where he joined the Unadilla House.  Ralph will be remembered by many for his excellent cuisine.

Ralph was a lifelong fan of the New York Giants, New York Yankees, Syracuse Orangemen and the Unatego Spartans.  He also liked watching and playing golf and visiting his parent’s cottage in the Thousand Islands in his spare time.  Ralph was an avid gardener and fisherman as well.

In addition to his wife Martha, he is survived by his children Aaron Vanderlip, Brad Vanderlip (Kaleigh Barber) and Katie (JR) James; sister Anne (Jim) Pellicano and brother Keith (Donalda) Vanderlip; grandchildren Avery and Liam James, Reed and Griffen Vanderlip and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 30, at the Unadilla Rod & Gun Club.
