IN MEMORIAM:

Doren Slade, 74,

UNADILLA – Doren L. Slade, 74, who authored the book “Making The World Safe For Existence,”  died on June 11, 2019.

Doren was born on Jan. 17, 1945 . She was a woman of great scholarship receiving her Ph.D. in Anthropology in 1973 and becoming a certified psychoanalyst in 1986. She wrote the book Making the World Safe for Existence…, and has been published in psychanalytic journals.

Doren was an avid traveler and had a passion for Mexican culture and cuisine. She was always an understanding, insightful, and empathic person and helped many people who are now living enriched lives.

She is survived by her spouse, Lisa J. Slade of Unadilla, brother Michael Slade and his wife Corinne of Cutchogue, and their children, cousins Toni and Les Gallant of Atlanta, Ga., and their children, cousins Roger and Margaret Rosenkrantz of New Hampshire and their son, cousins Richard and Barbara Maslow of Bedford, and their children, and many dear and close friends.

A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Sunday, June 16, at Temple Beth El, 83 Chestnut Street, Oneonta. Graveside service immediately following at Unadilla Center Cemetery. Reception after at Lisa and Doren’s home, 308 Fred Braun Road, Unadilla.

In lieu of gifts and flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation.

In Memoriam: Herbert James Kozak

Herbert James Kozak (Jim), 83, of Cooperstown, New York, passed away at Bassett Medical Center on Thursday, December 4, 2025. Jim was born March 25, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois to Herbert James and Therese Marie (Fischer) Kozak. After high school, Jim attended art school and worked in the hotel business. He worked his way up the ladder at Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, Illinois and later went on to be catering manager at Sawmill Creek Resort in Sandusky, Ohio and finally became the director of conference services at The Otesaga Resort Hotel in Cooperstown, New York, where he worked until retirement.…
