IN MEMORIAM:  Darryl L. Dye, 80;

Schwan’s Top Salesman In The Nation

EDMESTON – Darryl L. Dye, 80, who was top salesman in the nation a number of times during his 27 years with Schwan’s Home Delivery, passed away Thursday, Aug. 22.

Hel was born on June 26, 1939, in Edmeston, son of the late Roger L. and Mable V. Rose Dye. A lifetime resident of the area, Darryl graduated from Edmeston Central School.

In addition to Schwan’s, where he worked from 19879 to 2014, he was a dairy farmer in the Edmeston area from 1965 to 1988.  He also worked with Milt Davis, performing artificial insemination; Kraft Foods, and was a self-employed house painter.

Darryl was a true family man who loved life. He enjoyed watching Greg’s motocross, camping with family, and Sunday night poker games at Colleen’s house. He looked forward to watching his grandchildren’s sporting events, as well as basketball or the Little League World Series on TV. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting.

He will be remembered as “Sparky” for his love of Paladin Black Cherry tobacco that he smoked in his pipe, leaving the scent and embers wherever he went. He will also be remembered for his “sparky grin,” reading his Bible daily, and telling anyone who asked how he was feeling that he was “OK,” no matter how he really felt.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Sandra Dickenson Dye of Edmeston, who he married on May 19, 1965, daughters Breon (Eddie) Gonzalez of San Diego, CA, Colette (Heath) Dunham of Edmeston, Colleen Laymon (John Brunschmid) of New Berlin, Sons Greg Dye (Shannon Whitt Sylstra) of Norwich, and Duane Dye (Jena Lawson) of Bridgewater, 13 grand children, 15 great grandchildren, a brother Roger Dye, sisters Rosalee Cadwell and Cheryl (Lauren) Maxson, numerous nieces and nephews, and his dog K.C.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by sisters Ardath, and Marjorie, and a brother Danny.

Calling hours will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, at Delker &d Terry Funeral Home, 30 South St., Edmeston.  The funeral is planned at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, at the Second Baptist Church, North Street, Edmeston, with Andy Johnson officiating.

The family requests casual attire for calling hours and funeral services. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society www.donate3.cancer.org, or the Epilepsy Foundation www.donate.epilepsy.com/donate in memory of Darryl.
