GOP Chair: Hire Manager,

But Shrink Government

Vince Casale

COOPERSTOWN – Reacting to the news a vote on creating a county administrator may come by December, Republican County Chairman Vince Casale said fine, but it should be done by shrinking county government in other ways.

“I fully believe the addition of a county manager is a good idea and is needed,” Casale said. But “I believe it should come with additional reforms, such as term limits and reducing the size of the county board.”

County Rep. Meg Kennedy, R-C/Mount Vision, told the county board this week a resolution to create the new job may be ready by the December meeting.

The efficiencies a county-administrator structure would enable should mean not all the 14 representatives who administer the local government through a committee system.

“If you’re going to expand the size and scope of government, you should be able to hone in the other parts of it,” he said.  “You should look at all aspects of it.”

  1. We don’t need an appointed bureaucrat with 14 bosses, none of whom are elected county-wide. We need an elected County Executive and then the Board can take on its natural role as a legislature.
