To Baseball Hall Of Fame

COOPERSTOWN – In their first and last years of eligibility, respectively, Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter and Expos outfielder Larry Walker were elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame this evening.

Jeter received 99.7 percent of the vote, falling one vote shy of unanimous. Walker, only the second Canadian to enter the Hall of Fame, received 76.6 percent of the vote. The Baseball Hall of Fame Induction will be held Sunday, July 26 at the Clark Sports Center.

Additionally, Marvin Miller, who as leader of the MLB Players Association established free agency, turning players into tycoons, will be inducted posthumously by the Modern Era Committee, along with Ted Simmons, 70, an eight-time All-Star catcher who played 13 seasons with St. Louis.
