IN MEMORIAM: Louise W. Weisser, 87; Retired Teacher

COOPERSTOWN – Louise W. Weisser, 87, who retired to Cooperstown after a 35-year teaching career, died Saturday, June 21, 2014.

Born July 1, 1926, in Queens, Louise was the daughter of Wendelin and Wilhelmine (Vogel) Weisser. She received a B.A. in elementary education from SUNY New Paltz in 1947 and her master’s from the University of Colorado, Boulder, in 1969. In addition to traveling she was a regular participant in the many programs at The Clark Sports Center; she was an avid reader, enjoyed listening to fine music, was a volunteer at Bassett Hospital, and was a member of the choir at St. Mary’s “Our Lady of the Lake” Catholic Church.

Louise was predeceased by her parents and brother. She is survived by cousins and their families. Also, her special friends Frank and Shasta Corcoran of Richfield Springs and their children, her good friends Merrilyn O’Connell and Suzette Curley, both of Cooperstown, and by the many, many children whose lives she touched through her teaching.

The funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, at St. Mary’s “Our Lady of the Lake,” with Father John P. Rosson, pastor, officiating. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Index, follows.
