IN MEMORIAM: Esa Eramo, 54;

MOUNT VISION – Esa T. Eramo, 54, of Mount Vision, retired SUNY Delhi power plant engineer and a black belt in karate, passed away Sunday, April 10, at Bassett Hospital, after a 13-year battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

Esa was born in Inkeroinen, Finland, the son of Martti and Anja Eramo. Esa was the second of three sons.

He moved to Oneonta with his parents and older brother Kari at a young age where he attended Greater Plains Elementary School. After graduating from Delhi with an associate’s degree in industrial engineering, he worked at various companies before retiring from his alma mater.

He earned a third degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do karate, competitively raced motorcross, loved to four wheel around his property, listen to southern rock, fish, and show his incredible talent restoring classic cars. It was during his teaching karate that he met the love of his life and soulmate Michele Mastro. He became the beloved stepfather to Jessica. 

Esa was so brilliant, humorous, a jokester, he was a master at chess and most recently enjoyed his Suduko puzzles. He loved his animals very much, not only his cats and dogs, but the nature that was all around his property.

He is survived by his wife Michele, his mother Anja, brother Kimmo (Marie), stepdaughter Jessica (Derek), Aunt Lahja (Albert), cousin Eric(Wanda),sister in laws Debra, Darlene(Steve)Munson, many nieces and nephews, and his grandsons Myles and Marshall.

He is predeceased by his father Martti and brother Kari Eramo.

Esa was a shining light in a dark world. He always made us laugh and smile. He loved the Lord with all his heart. He will be forever loved and missed.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday April 16th at 1 pm at Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand Street Oneonta. A private family gathering will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations made be made to the Susquehanna Animal Shelter in Cooperstown NY.

In Memoriam: Melissa A. Carvin

ONEONTA—Melissa A. Carvin, 54, passed away unexpectedly on December 17, 2023 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.
She was born April 2, 1969 in Oneonta, the daughter of John and Frances (Beams) Mattice.
Melissa graduated from Oneonta High School, Class of 1987, and SUNY Delhi in 1989 with a degree in nursing. She worked on the maternity ward for 26 years at A.O. Fox Hospital, Oneonta, until the unit closed; at that time, she became a Women’s Health triage nurse at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.
She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Oneonta.…
