WWII Vet Dies On 94^th Birthday

ONEONTA – Lincoln D. Abrams. a World War II veteran and home builder in Delaware County who ran a country store in Andes, died on his 94^th birthday – April 28, 2016 – at Fox Nursing Home.

He was born on April 28, 1922, in Patchogue.

Lincoln served in the 84th Infantry Division from 1942 to 1946, seeing combat all over Europe, including the Battle of the Bulge.

He was honorably discharged, and he and wife Virginia moved from Long Island to Andes in 1970, where they owned the Tremperskill Country Store until he retired. Also as a carpenter, he built several homes in the area. When he finally retired, he worked as a grounds keeper at the Andes Cemetery for eight years.

Lincoln was predeceased by three older brothers and three older sisters, his wife Virginia Abrams, and his daughter Patricia Scinta.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Cathi Abrams of Arizona; his son-in-law, Vincent Scinta of Andes; his two granddaughters and their spouses, Julene and Jeffrey Waffle of Laurens, and Jeanine Scinta-Sass and Richard Sass of Andes; his two grandsons, Michael and Thomas Abrams and his wife Lyla of Arizona, five great-grandsons and two great-grandaughters: Lincoln, Levi, and Lucas Waffle, Faith and Liem Sass, and Aidan and Emily Abrams, and his dear friend Hedy Rendler.

Calling hours are 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi, followed at 1 p.m. with a funeral service with the Rev. Derek Johnson officiating. . Burial with full military honors will follow at Andes Cemetery.
