The illuminated sign in front of the Chestnut Street fire house is about to be replaced with a digital one from Stewart Signs, “America’s Premier Sign Company,” of Sarasota, Fla. At its April meeting on the 29th, the Village Board gave the go-ahead to the fire department, which is paying for the placard.  The village is exempt from its sign law. Fire Chief Jim Tallman said the sign can play several messages sequentially, and will be a help in directing citizens in emergency situations.   NEW HOURS:  Effective May 1, the Cooperstown Transfer Station will be open 7 a.m.-noon, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and 8-noon Saturdays. (Closed Tuesdays and Thursdays.) 1:30 AT 22 MAIN: The Friends of the Library’s Sunday, May 4, panel on a proposed ballot resolution to be on the May 20 CCS ballot is at 1:30 p.m. – not 4 p.m., as reported in the last edition – at 22 Main
