Allen Tapped To Lead Otsego Electric Cooperative

HARTWICK—Otsego Electric Cooperative’s Chief Executive Officer Timothy Johnson has announced his plans to retire on January 2, 2027, after 10 years of dedicated service. Prior to his years as CEO, Johnson served OEC as its attorney and served cooperatives nationally on staff at National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.

According to a press release, during Johnson’s tenure he helped guide OEC through significant improvements, most notably launching OEConnect, a critical broadband Internet initiative to connect underserved rural members. Otsego members expressed their satisfaction with Johnson’s leadership in the recent customer satisfaction survey—receiving an excellent rating, officials said.

“I have greatly enjoyed my time at Otsego Electric. I want to thank the employees, our Board of Directors, and the entire membership for all their support throughout the past 10 years,” said Johnson. “I am fortunate to leave a very dedicated team of employees to lead the co-op into the future.”

“The Board of Directors sincerely appreciates Tim’s leadership and commitment over the years,” said Gary Potter, OEC board president. “His leadership has helped position OEC for continued growth and success. We thank him for his service and wish him all the best in his retirement.”

A familiar face for Otsego Electric Cooperative has been selected as the new CEO.

To support a smooth transition, the board has chosen Cody Allen to take on that role.

“Allen’s 14 years with OEC has given him valuable insight into the co-op’s operations and, as the director of operations and finance, he has played a key role in managing the company’s financial health and working on strategic initiatives alongside Tim,” the press release reads.

“I am grateful for the trust the board has placed in me,” said Allen. “The cooperative has a proud tradition of delivering safe and reliable energy services at fair prices to its members, and I am dedicated to building on that legacy.”

Allen is a graduate of Laurens Central School. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business economics from SUNY Oneonta and an MBA from Clarkson University.

Johnson added, “It has been a true privilege to serve OEC’s members and work with such a committed team. I am proud of what we’ve accomplished together and look forward to seeing the cooperative continue to grow under Cody’s leadership.”
