On Trip To Chesapeake Bay

Bob Bassett, a descendant of Cooperstown's Bassett family and president of the Charles H. Bassett Youth Foundation in Owego, departed at 10 a.m. today on what he estimates will be a 16-day trip from the source of the Susquehanna at Cooperstown to Chesapeake Bay. He is commemorating a 1992 trip by his cousin Armond Bassett, who was state Canoeist of the Year that year, and a classmate's wife, Marilyn Beidleman, who succumbed to early onset Ahlzeimer's. Bob Bassett is the great, great grandson of William Bassett, the brother of Mary Imogene Bassett's father Wilson, Cheering him on his way at Council Rock Park this morning are, from left, Friends of Bassett Executive Director Josh Truman, Ann Thayer, executive director of the Otsego-Delaware chapter of the Ahlzeimer Foundation, and Carolyn Lewis, also at the Friends of Bassett.
