Carl A. ‘Bud’ Lindberg Sr., 85;
Leader In Farming Community
BURLINGTON – Carl A. “Bud” Lindberg Sr, 85, a dairy farmer and leader in the Northern Otsego agricultural community, passed away Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016, with his family at his side, after a long illness.
Bud was born in Brooklyn, on July 17, 1931, to Carl G. and Bertha Kneesy Lindberg. He spent his childhood in Rosedale, Long Island, attending PS 138 and Andrew Jackson High. Age 11, Bud took his first job delivering the Long Island Press after school prior to taking a job in a grocery store.
In July 1948, Bud and his parents moved to the “Family Farm” in Burlington. He graduated from Edmeston Central in 1949, a year he said was one of the best years of his life. He played baseball and basketball for the Edmeston Town Teams.
On Oct. 1, 1955, he married Carolyn Shillieto at the First Baptist Church of Burlington, a union that lasted more than 61 years.
Following graduation, Bud’s full attention turned to dairy farming. He and Carolyn worked together with their sons building the farm into what it is today.
He was very proud of his accomplishments. He served on several agricultural boards, such as the Fly Creek Valley Milk Co-op, where he served as president, and the South New Berlin Milk Co-op. He was also on the Otsego County Farm Bureau Board, as well as, the Otsego County ASCS Committee and the FHA Committee.
Bud was community minded, serving on the Burlington Town Board and the Edmeston School Board, and represented Edmeston Central at Otsego BOCES.
He was also a member of the former Burlington Grange #1322.
Bud had a deep faith in God. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Burlington, where he served as a trustee, and for many years as a deacon, a position he held until his death.
He was and avid Yankee and New York Giants fan. For over 75 years, he followed the Yankees, and was extremely happy to take his grandchildren to Yankee Stadium to watch a game. Bud drove cross-country 19 times, visiting New Mexico and Arizona, and enjoying sightseeing in the Southwest.
Of all his accomplishments, and commitments, he was most proud of his family. Behind God, they were first and foremost in his life.
In addition to his wife Carolyn, he is survived by son Carl (Paula) of Oriskany Falls, daughter JoAnn (Robert) VanVranken of Edmeston, daughter LuAnn (Brian) Flint of Queensbury, son Eric (Sylvia) of Burlington, and son Neil (Nancy) of Burlington; grandchildren Adam, Erin, Kelly, Vanessa, Gerrit, Matthew, Jonathan, Zachary, Justin, Joshua, Kimberly, and Andrew, and six great-grandchildren.
Also his sisters’ five children, sister-in-law Marjorie Schellhammer, and his extended family of nieces, nephews, and several cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law Elaine and Albert Bolton.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 7-9 Friday, Nov. 4, at the Houk Johnston Terry Funeral Home, 30 South St., Edmeston, NY.
A service of celebration of Bud’s life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at the First Baptist Church in Burlington, with Rev. Barry Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Burlington Green Cemetery.
