OBAMACARE REFORM SPURRED RALLIES

Congressman In Oneonta

Discussing ACA’s Future

Congressman Faso

By JIM KEVLIN • Special to www.AllOTSEGO.com

ONEONTA – Congressman John Faso, R-19, is in Oneonta today, meeting with key players in the medical community on the future of the Affordable Care Act.

The meeting has been sought for several weeks by Dr. Carolyn Wolf-Gould, director of Bassett Healthcare’s Fox Hospital Susquehanna Family Practice and The Gender Wellness Clinic, and county Rep. Kay Stuligross, D-Oneonta.

Other participants at the meeting, due to resume at 1:30 p.m. at the Oneonta Community Health Center at 31 Main St., include Dr. Ben Friedell, another family practice physician and former county Democratic chair, and Dr. Jim Dalton, director or medical education at Cooperstown’s Bassett Hospital.

The Republican-majority House of Representatives’ move to replace the ACA spurred rallies Saturday, Feb. 25, in Kinderhook, Faso’s hometown, Delhi and elsewhere in the 19th district to emphasize local fears about a possible end to Obamacare.

The freshman congressman has supported the replacement AHCA – the American Health Care Act – after he and other Upstate Republican congressman obtained an amendment prohibiting Albany from pushing down any additional Medicaid costs to the counties.

AHCA was withdrawn Friday, March 24, by President Trump and Speaker of the House Paul Ryan for lack of support, but talks about the bill have been revived in recent days.
