IN MEMORIAM: Stephanie K. Shultis, 48;

Managed Family’s Polar Bear Restaurants

SCHENEVUS – Stephanie K. Shultis Hurlburt, 48, a manager at her family’s Polar Bear restaurants, passed away September 7, 2017, after a courageous 10-year battle with thyroid cancer.

She was born May 9, 1969, in Oneonta, the daughter of Edmund G. and Beth A. (Wells) Shultis.

Stephanie grew up in Schenevus, graduating from Andrew S. Draper Central School, Class of 1987.

She was a manager at the family owned Polar Bear in Oneonta and Cooperstown for many years.  She also was a licensed teaching assistant at the Oneonta School District.

Stephanie was always supportive in her children’s sporting events and activities, and was at one time the advisor for the Ski and Snowboard Club.

Her bubbly, caring, outgoing personality, with her contagious laughter and beautiful smile could light up a room as soon as she entered.  Stephanie made friends wherever she went.  Her love of life and especially the love for her children and family were undeniable.

She is survived by her children, Mace Shultis of Oneonta, Tanner Carley of Oneonta, and Nica Hurlburt of Otego; her grandchildren, Brody and Mia Shultis; her parents, Ed and Beth Shultis of Schenevus; her sister, Michelle Swiderski and her sons, Andrew and Jameson Swiderski, all of Schenevus; her grandmother, Freda Shultis of Oneonta; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A celebration of Stephanie’s life will be at 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017 at Bella Michael’s Restaurant, 57 River St., Oneonta.

Interment at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5 Oak Ave., Sidney, NY 13838.
