IN MEMORIAM: Robert W. Alcott, 82;

Custodian, Edmeston Community Leader

Robert L. Alcott

EDMESTON – Robert Lewis Alcott, 82, an Edmeston Central custodian, firefighter and president of the library board, passed away at his home on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018.

Robert was born in Masonville on Feb. 3, 1935, the son of the late Russell Lewis and Daisy Greengrow Alcott. In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by his brother Ed, and sister Nancy.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen Mumbulo Alcott of Edmeston; a son, Robert J. Alcott of Edmeston; a daughter, Holly Alcott (Joe Mortzheim) of Minnesota, grandson Jack Mortzheim of Minnesota; siblings Myrtle Russell, Rusa Dutcher, Doris Burghart, Ray (Ida), In laws Frieda Alcott, and DaveWilliams. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Bob came to the Edmeston area while employed with Seven States Gas Co., but later began a 25-year career as a custodian at Edmeston Central School before retiring in 1987. In addition, he worked for Howard’s Trailer sales a short time.

Bob was a member of the Edmeston Fire Department, and Emergency Squad, as well as the library board where he served a president for 10 years.

He enjoyed collecting Jeeps, and playing guitar. He was one of the original Dutch Valley Boys, and then played with Silver Strings. For a 15-year stretch, they often performed at the Deer Path Inn, and played their music at local nursing homes.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at Delker & Terry Funeral Home, 30 South St., Edmeston, with Pastor Andy Johnson of the Second Baptist Church of Edmeston officiating. Calling hours will be 10-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Edmeston Fire Department and Rescue Squad in memory of Bob.
