Text Of Resolution Christening

‘Albert S. Nader Regional Airport’

Editor’s Note: Here is the text of the motion Oneonta Common Council will consider Tuesday evening renaming the city airport as “The Albert S. Nader Regional Airport.”

MOTION, that the Common Council adopts the following resolution:

WHEREAS, from 1950 to 1955, he was a member of the City of Oneonta Common Council as Alderman of the 6th Ward and, from 1962 to 1969, he then served our City as its Mayor; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure, he worked relentlessly to establish a municipal airport, noting that, “If we are going to grow, an airport is one of our fundamental needs”; and

WHEREAS, he believed that an airport would be “vital . . . economically, fiscally, and socially,” not only to the City, but to all of Otsego County and to the area beyond; and

WHEREAS, through his efforts, at times a lone voice and, at other times, far from home, Sam Nader ultimately led our community to acquire a site and develop a facility that became the Oneonta Municipal Airport, which has, since 1966, as he envisioned, become a vital element of Oneonta and its environs:

NOW, BE IT RESOLVED that the Common Council of the City of Oneonta, assembled in regular session on December 4, 2018, hereby names this important community asset the “Albert S. Nader Regional Airport” in recognition of his thoughtful foresight and in appreciation of his patient leadership in making this facility a reality for the people of Oneonta, Otsego County, and New York.
