Community Wants It, Director Says

Dr. Winther

COOPERSTOWN – As it has in Oneonta and Herkimer, Bassett Hospital plans ot open a Cooperstown Convenient Care unit Thursday, Jan. 3, on the first floor of the Clinic Building at Atwell Road and River Street.

“The community asked for a convenient care location closer to home, so this is an expansion of what we already have in place,” says Dr. Mark Winther, chief of Emergency & Trauma Services.

“Care at the Cooperstown location will be available after-hours during the week and on weekends when primary care practitioners are not available,” he said.

Convenient Care is perfect for things like sore throat, cough, earache, fever, cold and flu, sprains and strains, vomiting, diarrhea, minor burns or rash.

Services available include X-rays, limited lab testing and minor procedures, such as stitches and acute wound care. This care facility hopes to make it easier for people to reduce suffering by having easier access to these procedures. However, people with more serious wounds may be unable to receive treatments here. As they only deal with smaller wounds, some people may have to look elsewhere. Perhaps visiting a website like https://expertwoundcare.com could help more people to reduce their suffering. By visiting a website like that, people could learn about some of the more innovative methods of encouraging wounds to heal. Hopefully, some of those methods will be useful in healing more people’s wounds.

Staffed by nurse practitioners and physician assistants, Cooperstown Convenient Care hours will be Monday through Friday 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Individuals are encouraged to call ahead (607-547-5702) for an appointment that is convenient for them.

Bassett has been offering urgent care at Oneonta Specialty Services and Herkimer Health Center. A competitor, Five Star Urgent Care, opened a clinic on Oneonta’s Southside in July 2017.
