In Coma After Hit, Run Crash In VA

Jerry Colgate, who was known as Jerry Baldic as he was growing up in Cooperstown, graduating from CCS in 2004, has been in an induced coma in a Charlottesville, Va., hospital after he was felled by a hit-and-run driver at 2:40 a.m. Sunday.  He is the son of Sarah Colgate of Cooperstown.

The Charlottesville newspaper, the Daily Progress, quoted Jason Gaviria, also of Cooperstown and now living in Virginia, as “kind-hearted, happy-go-lucky, a friend to everyone and above all else, a man who travels and lives exactly as he sees fit.”

Gaviria set up a Live Like Jerry tribute page for his friend at gofundme.com, where contributions may also be made to cover his medical expenses.  As of this writing, $10,810 had been raised.  Here are related articles:
