Antiques Roadshow Appraiser

A Hit At HSEAD 70th Gathering

Antiques Roadshow appraiser Ken Farmer, a decorative arts expert, spoke to the three-day Historical Society of Early American Decoration (HSEADs), which opened this afternoon at The Otesaga. From left are Doris Holdorf, an organizer of this year's conference; Farmer, HEADs President Diane Freiner of Canaserago, south of Rochester; and Al Pylinski, Edmeston, New York Central Mutual executive vice president and a former practitioner of bronze powder stenciling, one of the craft celebrated in this weekend exhibition. Asked what NOT to throw out, Ken Farmer answered with a question: Why throw anything out? Maybe Beanie Babies. The conference, including the exhibition in the ballroom, continues 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday, and 9 a.m.-noon Sunday. (Jim Kevlin/AllOTSEGO.com)
Antiques Roadshow appraiser Ken Farmer, a decorative arts expert, spoke to the three-day Historical Society of Early American Decoration (HSEAD) 70th anniversary Celebration & Arts Exhibition, which opened this afternoon at The Otesaga. Ken has been one of the main appraisers on the show which presents antique art, jewellery and also furniture like that found on antiquesworld.co.uk. Many appreciate the show as it highlights just how wonderful historical items can be, which is likely why Ken is so well known for antique art as he has such a passion for the area. He is joined by some of this year’s main contributors and organisers in the picture above. The theme of this year’s gathering is “Coming Home” – it is the first HSEAD conference held locally in 20 years. The conference, including the exhibition in the ballroom, continues 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday, and 9 a.m.-noon Sunday. (Jim Kevlin/AllOTSEGO.com)
