IN MEMORIAM:  Donna A. Shipman, 60;

NBT Bank Vice President In Cooperstown

WEST WINFIELD — Donna A. Shipman, 60, NBT Bank’s vice president/regional manager in Cooperstown, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2015, at Bassett Hospital, with her loving family by her side.

She was born on Sept. 25, 1954, in Norwich, the daughter of John “Jack” Parks Sr. and Anna Grant. She graduated from Sauquoit Valley High School and Herkimer County Community College with an associate’s in business administration.

On Dec. 24, 2012, she was united in marriage to David Hailston at her son and son-in-law’s home in Utica.

She oversaw NBT’s downtown and Cooperstown Common branches.

She was the first female Rotarian of the West Winfield club and a past president.  She then served as an officer of the Cooperstown club, where she was named a Paul Harris Fellow.

She was a longtime volunteer at the West Winfield Library, a board member of the Cooperstown Chamber of Commerce, and a board member at the Folts Homes in Herkimer, among many other philanthropic contributions.

Donna loved camping in state parks with her family and friends. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crafting her personalized Christmas cards. Donna found happiness surrounded by her granddogs, Daphne, Olive and Bella.

In addition to her husband, David, she is survived by her children, Don (Adam Lawless) Shipman, Utica, Dara Shipman, Syracuse, Kimberly (Stephen) VanDuren, New Hartford and Ali (Jason) Benton, Claxton, Ga.; granddaughter, Ava; father, Jack (Nita Daniels) Parks; brothers and sisters, Debbie (Manny) Rowlands Beadle, Gary Parks, John (Tina) Parks, Don (Janet) Parks, Denise (Louie) Parks Bielecki and Jim (Katrina) Parks; special friends, Anne and Tim Ratcliffe and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her mother, Anna.

Her first marriage connected her with the Shipman family, which traces its origins to David Shipman, thought to be the model for James Fenimore Cooper’s Leatherstocking (Natty Bumppo).

Calling hours are 4-7 p.m. Thursday, March 19, at the Federated Church, 452 East Main St., West Winfield, followed by the funeral at 7.

Arrangements are entrusted to Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Homes, West Winfield.
