IN MEMORIAM: Vivian E. Baldwin, 84, Newspaper Editor

CHERRY VALLEY – Vivian E. Baldwin, 84, an editor for the Times Journal, Cobleskill, for many years, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2014.

She was born April 3, 1930 in Cobleskill, the daughter of the late LeRoy and Julia (Froyer) Meyers.  She married Elmer L. Baldwin on Sept. 21, 1957, at the Presbyterian Church, Cherry Valley.

Vivian graduated from William H. Golding Central School, Cobleskill, Class of 1948. She was employed prior to graduation at the Times Journal Publishing Co. on the first teletype setter equipment installed by a weekly newspaper in New York State. During the 33 years with the newspaper, her various duties included sports editor, social editor, and Cherry Valley Gazette news editor. After retiring in 1981, she continued as part time employee for seven years.

Vivian was a past member of the Cherry Valley Historical Association and the Chamber of Commerce.  She was a member of the Cherry Valley Tryon Bowling League, participating for many years in county and state tournaments.

She enjoyed working in her flower garden, reading and doing word puzzles.

Survivors include her husband Elmer Baldwin, sister Jane Crapser and brother Donald Myers, both of Cobleskill, sisters-in-law Pat Moore and Sally Anthony and several nieces and nephews.

Contributions can be made to the First Christian Church, South Valley.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, in the Cherry Valley Cemetery, with the Rev. Terry Brant officiating. Burial will follow.
