Teacher Exemplified Cancer-Fighting Courage

COOPERSTOWN – Kathleen M. Galland-Bennett, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and Cooperstown Elementary School teacher, passed away following a valiant struggle with cancer Sunday afternoon, July 12, 2015, at her home.  She was one day shy of her 51st birthday.

While fighting cancer, she continued to run and bike competitively in local races, often with her pals Christine McBrearty-Hulse, Anne Killian-Russo and Jenna Wratten.

Family and friends may call 4-7 p.m. on Thursday at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home, 82 Chestnut Street, Cooperstown.

A funeral service will be offered at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 2015, at the funeral home.  Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Index, where Kathleen will be laid to rest near her sister, Cyndi.

Memorial contributions to create a scholarship in Kathleen’s memory may be made payable to “Cooperstown Central School.”  Place Kathleen’s name on the memo line, and mail to the attention of the Business Office at 39 Linden Ave., Cooperstown, NY  13326.

A complete obituary will be published tomorrow on www.allotsego.com and in this week’s Freeman’s Journal, on the newsstands Wednesday afternoon.

Arrangements are under the care and guidance of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

In Memoriam Virginia L. Stocking December 2, 1922-May 17, 2023 SPRINGFIELD CENTER—Virginia L. Stocking, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on May 17, 2023 at the age of 100.  Virginia was born in Cooperstown on December 2, 1922 to Earl and Catherine Richards. She spent most of her childhood in East Springfield and graduated from Springfield Central School in June of 1940. She married Glenn C. Stocking on April 9, 1944.
