ONEONTA – Common Council member Madolyn Palmer announced just moments ago that she will seek a second term for her Fifth Ward council seat.  “I feel that, right now, Common Council needs someone with experience,” she said.  “I plan to stay on council as long as I can.”

With her announcement, four incumbent have now announced they are running again, and four that they are retiring.

Mrs. Palmer, who retired as longtime business manager of the Oneonta City School District, (where she was also active in coaching the cheerleading team), was appointed by Mayor Dick Miller in 2010 after the resignation of Council member Roger Moran.  She was elected to a full term in 2011.

She joins Council members Maureen Hennessy, First Ward, Dave Rissberger, Third Ward and Mayor Russ Southard, Sixth Ward in seeking another term.  Departing Common Council on Dec. 31 are Larry Malone, Second Ward, Mike Lynch, Fourth Ward, Bob Brzozowski, Seventh Ward and Chip Holmes, Eighth Ward.
