Michael Janitz, 67

Michael Janitz

Oneonta – Michael Janitz, 67, passed away at home unexpectedly on July 19, 2021.

He was born December 17, 1953 in Paterson, NJ, the son of Paul and Mary (Hart) Janitz Sr.

Michael was a 32-year Local Union Carpenter.  He also was the owner and operator of Sharp Cut Construction for 15 years.  He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, traveling, fishing, hunting, and football, he was a Giants fan; most especially he loved being with his family.

He was a member of the 6th Ward Athletic Club and the Delhi Stage Land Owners Association.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie (Heck) Janitz of Oneonta; children, Joseph and Lacey Janitz of Oneonta, Joshua and Michaela Anderson of Oneonta, Jason Crane and Patricia Crane, both of Georgia; grandchildren, Evan, Aubrey and Lexi Janitz and Ryan Mangroo; his siblings, John and Suzanne Janitz of New Lisbon, Pat and Kathy Janitz of New Jersey, Mary Rose of Otego, Teresann Campbell of Otego, Stephen and Rebecca Janitz of Cooperstown, Judy of New Jersey and Bobbi of New Jersey; his mother-in-law, Margo Heck of Oneonta; and brother-in-law, Wayne Heck Jr. of Mt. Vision; many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; his son, Michael J. Janitz; siblings, Paul Janitz Jr., Jennie and Al Fleshman.

Calling hours will be 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., with the funeral service at 4 p.m. on Friday, July 23, 2021 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Frank MacCracken, officiating.  A celebration of life will follow at the 6th Ward Athletic Club, 22 W Broadway, Oneonta.
