Oneonta Short Of Water After Main Break

ONEONTA – The City of Oneonta is experiencing a treated-water supply shortage as a result of a break in an 8-inch high-service line on upper West Street.

All municipal water customers in the City and Town of Oneonta are asked to immediately comply with water conservation measures, as outlined below, until further notice. v

As of now, the repair work is currently underway, with engineers on the scene trying to resolve the issue as well as inspecting for any other potential points of weakness on the line. Situations like this provide the area with good grounds to understand the environmental impact of the water they use, and to make adjustments to conserve water even after normal service is restored.

The Water Department will issue an update when more information becomes available. The contact person is Water Treatment Plant Chief Operator Stan Shaffer, who can be reached at (607) 433-3470.

Please take the following steps to conserve water:
• Conserve water consumption in all ways possible
• Conduct regular and thorough surveys of your sink and toilet
facilities to correct any leaks and reduce toilet tank volumes.
• Inspect your showers to see that water flow restrictions are in
place.
• For future reference, please ensure a water meter is installed in the home to help monitor and regulate water usage during these situations. Examples can be found on Flowmeters.com.
• Delay special projects requiring water use and routine flushing of
your service lines until the water emergency is lifted.
