Maureen Kuhn, Family Nurse Practitioner, is retiring from Bassett Medical Center after 40 years.

Family Nurse Practitioners (FNPs) are nurses with an advanced degree who treat a full range of patient populations, from infants to the elderly.

“I came to Bassett as a float FNP, there were three health centers at the time, Cherry Valley, Edmeston and Morris,” Ms. Kuhn said. “I was hired to float between those three health centers,” she said.

ONEONTA – Dr. Howard Joseph, 94, who practiced podiatry in Oneonta for 50 years and was active in the city’s civic life, died Saturday, Jan. 25, at his home following a brief illness.

The son of Harry and Gertrude Joseph, he was raised in The Bronx, and met his future wife, Bernice, while they were both growing up there.  They were married for 73 years.

During World War II, he served in a tank battalion in Europe, and returning home attended the New York Podiatry School.  According to his son, David, he sought out a location for his practice, and settled on Oneonta, opening his office here in 1950.

The Bassett clinic, which opens to the public on Monday, Nov. 9, features five exam rooms, a considerable upgrade from the former Edmeston clinic, a one-room space in a converted farmhouse. Bill Streck, Cooperstown, the retired Bassett president/CEO, poses in the lobby of the newly completed William F. Streck Health Center on the Pathfinder Village campus in Edmeston, during an opening reception this evening.   Operated by the Bassett Healthcare Network, the clinic opens to the public on Monday featuring five exam rooms.  The new building is a considerable upgrade from the former Edmeston clinic – one room in a converted farmhouse to the west of the new locale on Route 80.
