Deputy, Dogs Safe After Entangled

In Wires At Route 23 Crash Scene

ONEONTA – County Sheriff’s Deputy Kristopher Solovitch and his dog, Mika, members of the K9 Unit, are safe after Solovitch’s vehicle became tangled in power lines following a tractor-trailer crash at 2 a.m. today on Route 23, Town of Oneonta.

The rig, driven by Anthony Angona, Kirkville, was eastbound in heavy rain and failed to negotiate a sharp curve in the road, according to a press release.  The tractor-trailer crossed the westbound lane and went off the road, knocking down several utility poles and guiderails before overturning.

Solovitch was on routine patrol and traveling westbound when his cruiser became entangled in the downed lines.  Though all parties were uninjured, Solovitch and Mika had to remain in the vehicle for over an hour while NYSEG responded to the downed lines.  \

Additional units from the Sheriff’s office, State Police and rescue units from West Oneonta and West Laurens also responded to the scene, and the road was closed off until 1 p.m.
