HARTWICK — James Hilary Millea, 93, of Hartwick, died Saturday morning, Nov. 9, 2019, at Bassett Hospital.

He was born Dec. 29, 1925, in Rolfe, Iowa, the eldest of 11 children – including three sets of twins – to Joseph Hilary Millea and Margaret Lillian née Flaherty Millea.

Raised in Iowa, he attended school up to the 11th grade, when at the age of 17 he left school, worked briefly on the railroad, then enlisted in the Navy on July 17, 1943.

WWII Vet Invaded Via Omaha Beach

ONEONTA – Wilbur B. Carr, 91, SUNY Oneonta’s chief custodian and a World War II veteran who participated in the Normandy invasion, passed away quietly on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016, at Bassett Hospital.  He had been living at Focus Rehabilitation & Nursing.

He was born Dec. 26, 1924, in Cooperstown, the son of the late David M. and Martha (Baumes) Carr.
During World War II, he entered France via Omaha Beach in August 1944, and  awarded France’s Legion of Honor in 2015.
