En Route To Capitol Hill

Norah Ashwood, above, a sophomore being home-schooled in Cherry Valley, receives an Award of Merit for her citation for a charcoal, “African Vase,” from Juror Michelle Corbett, who has a ceramics studio near Schenevus.  The occasion was this evening’s opening of “An Artistic Discovery” at the Cooperstown Art Association, the first step in the annual Congressional students’ art show; after regional and state competition, the winners’ works will end up in an exhibit on Capitol Hill.  Between them is Janet Erway, CAA executive director.  In inset photo is Award of Merit winner Jazmine Gutierrez, an ONC BOCES senior, for her graphite portrait, “Marcus Mosenson.”  Behind Jazmine is another winner, Lucas Webster, a Cherry Valley-Springfield senior, for “Anemone,” a photograph.   Others receiving Awards of Merit are Andrew Brown, Milford, Danielle Ashe, ONC BOCES,  and Grace LeCates, Cooperstown.  Receiving Jurors’ Citations are Kaitlyn Ehlers, Jessic Lundy and Anna Vos, all of CV-S, Maria Noto, Cooperstown, and Joseph Sell, home schooled in Hartwick, as well as Norah Ashwood.  (Jim Kevlin/AllOTSEGO.com)
