CCS Among Top U.S. High Schools

13 HAWKEYES FULL LOGO - COLOR-1COOPERSTOWN – Cooperstown High School has been placed in the top 5 percent of the nation’s high schools by U.S. New & World Report.

The high school was ranked 838th out of 19,753 schools nationwide evaluated in a recent collaboration of U.S. News and North Carolina-based RTI International, a global non-profit social science research firm.

A three-step process was used to determine the rankings. The first two steps involved the school’s performances on math and reading sections of their state proficiency tests. The third
step assessed the degree to which schools prepare students for college-level work.

The study initially reviewed 29,070 public high schools in the country, however, some of the schools had to be eliminated because their enrollments were too small to be analyzed.

“This ranking is the culmination of the effort and value our community, faculty and, most of all, our students place in
academic achievement,” Jr./Sr. High School Principal Michael Cring said. “We are honored.”

Under the study’s criteria, Cooperstown was ranked 90th out of 1,259 high schools in New York
State.

“The high school’s placement in the top tier of the U.S. News & World Report’s rankings is not just a positive reflection of the teachers, staff and students at the high school. It also indicates the district as a whole is committed to academic excellence. A solid foundation laid in elementary
and jr./sr. high school respectively, lead to success at the high school level,” Superintendent C.J.
Hebert said.

Over the summer, Business First in a separate study of Upstate New York school districts ranked Cooperstown School District 50th out of 431 Upstate New York School Districts. Cooperstown
was the top district in Otsego County.
