HARTWICK – Timothy R. Johnson of Edmeston, former legal counsel to the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, has joined Otsego Electric Cooperative as chief executive officer.

A lifelong Otsego County resident and OEC attorney for almost 30 years, the new CEO succeeds Steve Rinell, who resigned.

At the NRECA from 2012 to 2014, Johnson assisted electric cooperatives with matters related to general cooperative law, corporate governance, intellectual property, consumer protection and other matters.

He was also corporate counsel to a national marketing alliance of 750 member cooperatives.

Currently, the OEC is collaborating with Otsego County, Otsego Now and Middleburgh Telephone Co. in a project that aims to bring broadband Internet throughout the county.
