‘It’s Personal’ Campaign Fulfilled;
Pledge Surpassed By $2.7 Million
ONEONTA – Hartwick College today announced it has fulfilled the “It’s Personal” pledge made Friday, May 10, 2013, completing its $32 million fundraising “Campaign for Hartwick Students” and surpassing it by $2.7 million. It was the largest fundraising campaign in the college’s 219-year history.
“We achieved our goal of improving the student experience to an even greater degree than we originally thought possible,” said President Margaret L. Drugovich.

“Because of the generosity of so many, Hartwick College is a stronger, more competitive, more supportive, more welcoming, and more accessible place for students to discover the wonder of their future.”
Overall, 9,719 donors supported The Campaign, including 4,248 alumni; 2,370 parents; 1,219 friends and community members; and 603 corporations, foundations, and organizations. More than 250 employees and more than 1,000 Hartwick students also made gifts to this campaign.
To ensure that The Campaign supported every Hartwick College student, funds were raised for a set of strategic initiatives with a student focus: endowment funds primarily to increase scholarship support and off-campus experiential learning opportunities for students; capital projects to improve all aspects of campus life; opportunity funds to advance special living and learning experiences; and annual giving to support ongoing operations. Donors endowed 87 new funds and enhanced 73 existing funds through their giving to this campaign.
Capital gifts in the Campaign have significantly changed Hartwick’s campus:
- the new William V. Campbell H’10 Fitness Center
- the fully renovated Stack Lounge student gathering space in Dewar Hall
- the fully renovated men’s and women’s locker and team rooms in Binder Physical Education Center
- major improvements to Moyer Pool area to create the Sally Griffiths Herbert ’88 Aquatic Center
- enhancements to Anderson Center for the Arts’ performance and studio art spaces
- upgrades to residential space and Challenge Education equipment at the Pine Lake Environmental Campus.
“This campaign truly was personal – for our students who benefit, for the donors who chose to give generously, and for all of us who explained to others why we believe that the Hartwick experience is worth our investment, and theirs,” Drugovich said. “I hope that the Hartwick community will take pride in the strength of our commitment to our students that is signaled by the historic success of this campaign.”
