Bendix Retiree Served On City Board

ONEONTA – John Paul Frankl, Sr., 86, of Oneonta, a Marine, retired Bendix tool maker, and master electrician, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at Fox Hospital.

John was born March 4, 1930, in West Davenport the son of the late Stephen and Anna (Sell) Frankl. He married Helen Tucci on Jan. 11, 1952, in St. Mary’s Church in Oneonta.

He joined the Marine Corps, and rose to sergeant during the Korean War.

John was a tool maker for the Bendix Company in Sidney for 40 years, retiring in 1992. He was also a master electrician who served on the City of Oneonta Board of Electricians.  He worked as an electrician until he was 85.

He enjoyed traveling, camping, golfing and gatherings with family and friends.  A hard-working man, loved his family, was always helping others and was a service to his community.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Church and American Legion Post #259, where he was a past commander, life member of BPOE Lodge #1312 and was an on call volunteer firefighter for the Oneonta Fire Department.

John is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen Frankl of Oneonta; his children, John P. Frankl, Jr. of West Oneonta, James D. Frankl and his wife, Janet of Otego, and Mary-Jo Frankl of Oneonta.  Also, five grandchildren, Hannah, Lara, Dana, Ian and Stephen.

Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 25, at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand Street, Oneonta at which time the family will be in attendance.

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, at the funeral home, with Rev. David Mickiewicz, pastor of St. Mary’s Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.
