COOPERSTOWN – Kristin Butler, veteran Cooperstown Central School teacher and administrator, has been appointed junior-senior high school principal, effective July 1.

She will succeed Donna Lucy, who resigned last summer.  In the interim, Jim Brophy, retired Edmeston Central School principal, has filled the role.

A 1999 CCS graduate, Butler has served the district for the past 13 years in both instructional and administrative roles, most recently as the director of curriculum development & assessment.

She has in-depth knowledge of state Learning Standards, curriculum, and quality instruction through her development of various training programs for district staff and subsequent support for teachers.

“I’m very fortunate to be able to work with an experienced staff who have expertise in both their content area and in developing adolescents,” says Mrs. Butler.  “It is very special to have lived and worked in this school district for many years, including my own K-12 educational experience.  I hope to bring consistency for students, families and staff.  Interacting with students is what I look forward to the most as I enter this new role and phase of my career.  I am excited to work alongside our students and teachers to enhance programs and continue the long-standing expectation for success and putting students first.  Building relationships with students, families and staff will support our school in improving student outcomes and opportunities.”

Mrs. Butler’s proven ability to communication with and be a resource for staff, students, and the community make her an ideal choice to lead the Junior-Senior High learning community.
