IN MEMORIAM: Thomas Youngs Sr., 76;
Moved Family To County From L.I. In 1988
MARYLAND – Thomas E. Youngs Sr., 76, who worked for the City of Oneonta and Drogen’s Electric after moving here from Long Island in 1988, passed away suddenly and went to be with his Lord Thursday, June 27, 2019, at home, following a two-year battle with heart disease.
He was born Jan. 13, 1943, in Glen Cove, to the late Floyd and Lillian (Whalen) Youngs.
Tom and Barbara Baumer were high school sweethearts; he was 15 years old and Barb was 14. Tom married Barb on Aug. 3, 1963, in St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, Bethpage.
Tom was a truck and automobile mechanic and truck driver. He worked for the NYS DOT and for Trius Equipment as a mechanic and demonstrator of heavy equipment.
Tom and Barb lived in Farmingdale, Long Island, and raised eight children, moving to the Town of Milford/Goodyear Lake area in 1988.
He was a generous, caring person and a loving husband and father.
A parishioner of St. Mary’s Church, Oneonta, he loved NASCAR, working on cars and trucks, watching TV, mowing and driving the lawn tractor and going to the casino. His joy came from his family and his dog, Archie.Tom touched many lives, was a hard worker and will be missed by many people.
He is survived by his loving spouse of 55 years, Barbara; his six sons, Thomas Youngs Jr. (Bonnie), Christopher Youngs Sr. (Misty), Patrick Youngs (Denise), William Youngs (Kathleen), Terance Youngs and Matthew Youngs; two daughters, Kathleen Youngs (Brian) and Coleen Parker (Kurt); grandchildren, Catharine Youngs, Daniel Youngs, Christopher Youngs Jr., Vincent Youngs, Brendan Youngs, Griffin Youngs, Jessie Youngs, Kaycee Hecox and John Parker; and great-granddaughter, Abigail Stone. He is also survived by his brothers, Duke (Mary Ann) Youngs, William (Linda) Youngs and Richard Youngs; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 3, at St. Mary’s Church, 39 Walnut St., Oneonta, with the Rev. David Mickiewicz, pastor, officiating. Committal services and burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.
Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 2, at Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta. The family will be in attendance.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the American Heart Association in Tom’s name.
